Find your purpose
Your purpose is your North Star or your guiding light. To find your purpose, you’ve got to write down your core values. These values are your essence and who you are at the deepest level. Being firm and confident in who you are will you direction and vision - and with that you’ll raise the level of what you expect of yourself.
Envision the “new you” - the you at your highest potential
Once you know your values, envision your ideal self - the self that is capable of achieving the highest level of success. Think about what it takes to be that person. What kind of decisions would you have to make? What does that person need to sacrifice? What would they need to learn? From there, you can develop a plan.
Have an honest conversation with yourself and create a plan of action
To discover your potential, you must understand what hold you back. What keeps you stuck, stagnant, unproductive? This honest introspective is difficult but requisite. Once you’ve listed everything holding you back, your limitations, weak points and personal kryptonite, you can create a plan of action.
A plan of action is something you can follow, refer to and adjust. It will help to keep you sharply focused on your goals even when temptations and obstacles arise. Your plan of action will also guide you when it’s time evaluate your progress.
Make a decision
Possibly the most vital component in discovering and reaching your potential is making the decision to change your current life. Until you are internally decided, determined, and committed to the long tumultuous journey of self-discovery and fulfillment, all the planning, mantras, and resources won’t matter. It’s the internal shift in attitude that will get you through the ups and downs, failures and backtracking. Once you’ve signed the contract with yourself, nothing will be able to stop you.
