Protecting your ideas

Section 1 : Identifying risks

20%

Before you can protect your ideas, it’s important to understand the risks they face. These can include competitors replicating your product, team members accidentally leaking sensitive information, or even cyberattacks targeting your business.

For example, if you’ve developed a revolutionary app, failing to register its code or brand could allow others to copy it and profit from your efforts. Similarly, openly discussing unpatented innovations at networking events might expose you to opportunists who act faster than you.

Recognising these risks allows you to assess vulnerabilities and develop strategies to minimise exposure without stifling growth. Being aware doesn’t mean being fearful - it’s just being prepared.
