What is operational efficiency?

Section 1 : Examine your processes

20%

Let’s say you want to photocopy a document. Imagine if you had to fill out a form in triplicate, submit a signed affidavit stating intention and purpose, and then get all relevant business departments to sign off on your action. That process might ensure that your company rarely wastes paper, but it wastes an enormous amount of time. It’s a shortsighted process that actually costs more than it saves.

While this is an exaggerated example, business processes are routinely to blame for operational inefficiencies. Processes are necessary, of course, but you should examine them routinely to see if they can be simplified, or better yet, automated. The goal is to keep your staff productive while imposing the least amount of “busy work” possible.
