Please tell us your name, where your business is located and what is it that you do?

I’m Rucien Petersen and my business is located in Cape Town, South Africa. I am the Founder of a Company called Spottmedia (Pty) Ltd. Our company assists Business Owners and Entrepreneurs to become Clear, Confident and Connected using our Digital Services. These services are categorized into Digital for Business, Digital for Leaders and Digital Marketing Workshops for Corporates and institutions.

Tell us about how you got started.

In 2017 I conducted research as part of my thesis and found that business owners were challenged in 3 aspects of Marketing namely the Time to market, the Skills to implement and Understanding what strategies and tactics to implement. This research allowed me to identify the need of small business owners and to start Spottmedia.

What makes your company unique?

We provide tailored Digital solutions, quick turnaround times and focused on building Personal Relationships with our clients. We understand each client and create solutions tailored to each business and brand.

No business is without setbacks; can you tell us about a time when you faced a significant setback and how you recovered from it?

COVID 19 impacted our business significantly as clients could not operate. This led to contracts ending and businesses not too keen to take on Marketing services. I decided to offer webinars focused on specific marketing topics and branched into partnering with member based organisations like the Cape Chamber of Commerce to run these workshops. The transition to online webinars helped our business to grow and to expand during COVID.

How do you define success and to what do you attribute your success?

I do believe that success is being able to identify your purpose for your life and once you have identified that purpose to then live your life honestly, truthfully and fully transparent with everyone you connect with and impact on your journey.

What's next for your business, what will it look like in 5 years?

In 5 Year’s we tend to expand into International Markets broadening our client base and network. Firstly, into Africa then globally.

What do you think the future holds for Africa-focused entrepreneurs and advice do you have for entrepreneurs who are just starting out?

I do believe that for entrepreneurs the future is bright. With the growth and evolution of AI, According, to the National University “97% of business owners think using ChatGPT will help their business” it can assist many Entrepreneurs to grow, build and scale way faster than before. Access to opportunities (Events, Funders and Business Support) has never been greater in 2026 for Entrepreneurs. For those starting out it is important to identify the need and then to align yourself with like - minded individuals who are positive, action-takers and who can guide you along your journey. If there’s a need and you operate in an industry or sector where there is demand, then your business will continue to grow and succeed.

Owning a business while balancing a personal life can be challenging; how do you take care of yourself?

For my spiritual development I belong to a local church which aids my spiritual growth and helps me to remain connected with my creator. To strengthen my relationship with my family we plan regular vacations throughout the year allowing us to rest and reconnect with each other. To live a healthy lifestyle, I workout 3 times a week with a mix of cardio and weights and for my personal growth I belong to a Mens Group which acts as an accountability group. We support eachother during difficult times and celebrate with one another during times of success.

What is your favorite quote or mantra?  What keeps you going?

“Stay Hungry, Stay Humble”. No matter what goals are achieved, I am continuously seeking ways to improve and I do believe that as you achieve your goals remaining humble will become increasingly important.

What is your favorite app or a business tool that you can't live without

We use an AI business tool which allows us to take once piece of video content and to create 30 – 40 additional pieces of content for our brand and our clients. It’s efficient, saves us time and reduces costs.
