In Uganda, the rate at which accidents kill people is alarmingly increasing as everyone struggles to make a living. Under an NGO platform, Gonjoola Uganda, we have established the "Community Safety and Health Program" to eliminate preventable deaths at work, on the road, in schools, homes and other communities. The program seeks to empower communities to carry out the following activities;
1. Identify hazards in their communities
2. Control the risks associated with the hazards
3. Provide first aid treatment in case of accidents
4. Record and report accidents
Our strategy is to create ambassadors in communities through education, training, and supervision. These ambassadors will create other ambassadors until everyone in the community is able to do the 4 activities listed.
