We are a forward-thinking African startup based in Brazzaville that has revolutionized the supply chain sector by creating a smart distribution platform.
Our platform uses innovative business models and technologies to connect supply and demand in the fish and chicken value chains. By operating decentralized off-grid and on-grid cold storage facilities, the platform reduces post-harvest losses and ensures market access for smallholder farmers and fishers.
We offer farmers and fishers a cost-effective way to get their products directly to consumers. Through the platform, the company has been able to help smallholder farmers and fishers increase their incomes while promoting fair trade.
The company's use of technology to create an efficient and transparent supply chain is helping to solve supply chain challenges and create value for underserved communities.
Decentralize access to the cold chain and markets
According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, 40 to 50% of produce in sub-Saharan Africa is lost before reaching consumers. This waste is largely the result of inadequate cold chain solutions and poor handling practices, which significantly impact farmers' incomes and threaten regional food security.
In the white meat value chain, including fish and chicken, the main challenges are unstable market access and post-harvest losses due to poor infrastructure in rural areas. In Central Africa, approximately 50% of the population depends on poultry, fishing, or fish farming as their primary or secondary source of livelihood. Post-harvest losses among smallholder farmers, traders, and fish producers reach approximately 40%, leaving only 60% of produce available to consumers. This loss often results in lower incomes and, to compensate, leads to overfishing, which puts additional pressure on already fragile lake and ocean ecosystems.
To address these challenges, GreenBox, a technology-driven company, has developed an efficient, demand-driven cold chain distribution platform powered by Google technology. Our goal is to make cold chain solutions both affordable and accessible, even in underserved regions like Louvakou in southern Congo.
Our innovation is a 100% solar-powered cold storage preservation technology that extends the shelf life of perishable products from the usual 2 days to 21 days, helping them reduce losses by 90%. We offer solar-powered refrigerated coolers and transport solutions to smallholder farmers, fishermen, fish farmers, and poultry farmers across Central Africa. Our end-to-end cold chain logistics solution uses a technology platform to align supply (fish catch) with demand (rural and urban customers), improving efficiency and reducing waste throughout the value chain.
Delivery
Sustainable and unbreakable cold chain solution in the red and white meat value chain.
First Mile
After harvest, small producers can use our GreenBox solar-powered coolers off-grid, allowing them to have a longer shelf life and therefore negotiate better prices.
Cold Chain – Logistics
Using a collaborative tool—an online web platform—customers can book our cold chain truck as part of a "shared service" designed to help them access remote markets while keeping them fresh.
Markets – Last Mile
Traders are primarily located in urban markets, but due to power outages and high electricity costs, they need a backup solution to extend shelf life. Our cold storage facility can accept both DC and AC power. This means it has a built-in solar-powered backup system in case of a power outage or rising electricity costs.
Impact and Beyond
GreenBox provides local refrigerated cooling boxes and transportation to underserved stakeholders in the white meat value chain in Central Africa. Their end-to-end cold chain logistics solution leverages a technology platform to match supply (fish catch) with demand (rural and urban customers).
In just three years, GreenBox has impacted more than 3,800 fishermen, increasing their income by more than 15% by preserving the 25% of their harvest that spoils due to a lack of storage and transportation infrastructure.
