Construction waste is a hidden problem that accounts for 75% of total waste in UAE. Dubai alone produces around 5000
tonnes of construction and demolition waste everyday. Construction waste is dumped in small cities, neighborhoods and new
residential areas. It also increases the burden on landfill sites. Increasing waste doesn't just impact our natural resources and
environment; it also negatively affects the financial stability of construction firms. With ongoing globalization and
industrialization in UAE, construction waste is expected to rise.
The Sustainable builders' mobile application is a mobile app. where recycling companies and other stakeholders can find
excess construction material. It is a platform that creates space for all interested stakeholders to share information and
manage such excess materials and waste. Sustainable builders enable the management, recycling, and reuse of leftover
construction material. Recycling companies and other interested people can find excess construction waste and contact each
other to buy the material. The purpose of our project is to eliminate the increasing construction waste and reduce the need to
consume natural resources. The goal is to conserve raw materials by reducing, recycling, and reusing construction waste. We
also aim to achieve sustainability by creating a new way of managing used materials. And it is important for us to engage
youth as budding environmentalists via incoming project and volunteering activities in app.
Since this will be the first-ever app in UAE to trade excess construction waste or materials. This idea is innovative since it has
not been implemented yet. It is an intriguing app that will benefit the buyer, seller, and the environment as a whole, and make
UAE a sustainable country in the field of reusing and recycling excess construction waste.
Moreover, this app also involves youth. There are different volunteering/educational programs in the app for youth to
participate in recycling, sorting and collecting the waste, and receive an online certificate. Youth and other parts of the
community can submit their innovative ideas via the app 'My idea' feature and the best project could win some prizes or even
be chosen for implementation via funding by the collaborating companies.
This app also entails other features like profiling and description of wastes where the property owner that owns a construction
waste could take a photo of the excess product/waste and share it with the public and If another property owner was interested
in buying the excess product/wastes. Then they can agree together and give an offer to the owner.
