My name is Joan Adakun, an architectural designer and entrepreneur passionate about sustainable design and youth leadership. I hold a degree in Industrial and Fine Arts and a diploma in Architecture, with over five years of professional experience in architecture and interior design. I am the Founder and Lead Designer at Flip Avenue Limited, a female-led interior and architectural design company in Uganda. Through Flip Avenue, I lead the design and implementation of residential and commercial projects, integrating environmental consciousness with innovative design approaches.
My passion for green infrastructure was shaped by my upbringing in a shared household, which inspired my vision to create functional and uplifting spaces. I further honed my entrepreneurial and leadership skills through the NSSF Hi Innovator Women’s Accelerator Program, where I successfully pitched my business and won a $20,000 grant to establish a physical office. My long-term goal is to become a leader in sustainable architecture, driving community-centered, eco-friendly solutions in Africa and beyond.
