Distribution and purchasing are often housed together under the broader term “logistics” which concerns the procurement of materials and distribution of manufactured products.
Distribution professionals are responsible for managing warehouses, hiring and/or maintaining trucking fleets, designing distribution routes, and establishing new distribution relationships.
As mentioned earlier, not all companies will need every one of these functions. A law firm isn’t likely to establish a distribution arm and a chain of daycare facilities won’t incorporate research and development. Use these as a general guide and alter them as necessary.
