Project Isizwe
Project Isizwe

Isizwe means "people" or "nation" in many African languages. It is a universal term to show togetherness. We call ourselves Isizwe because we want to bring all of Africa together, and then all of Africa to the world. We do this through connectivity & education.

ABOUT

Project Isizwe is the non-profit branch of the company behind R5 WiFi in Africa, Isizwe. We are an award-winning, non-profit organisation which works with the public and private sector to bring affordable public WiFi internet access to low-income communities across South Africa.

We facilitate and enable the deployment of public internet WiFi hotspots within walking distance in low-income communities for educational purposes, economic development and social inclusion. The best means of addressing inequality in our communities is the deployment of public -or privately funded public WiFi in low-income communities.

BACKGROUND

During 2013 Alan re-committed to his path: bridging the digital divide, but more realistic about dreams translating to cashflow.

He also realized that the only way to truly fair internet market is one where superfast internet is affordable to all South Africans, not just those of us living in leafy suburbs.

Hence the birth of Project Isizwe, an NGO that helps municipalities to provide free WiFi in low-income communities.
