Mitigating Deforestation and Indoor Air Pollution in Zambia
Mitigating Deforestation and Indoor Air Pollution in Zambia

My project aims to address two significant issues in Zambia: deforestation and indoor air pollution. By manufacturing and distributing clean cook stoves and eco-friendly briquettes, we are offering sustainable alternatives to traditional cooking methods, which often rely on wood and charcoal.

Here’s a more detailed breakdown of my project’s focus

Firstly traditional cooking methods heavily rely on firewood and charcoal, leading to extensive deforestation. By introducing clean cook stoves and eco briquettes, our project reduces the need for wood and charcoal, thereby helping to preserve forests.

Secondly, conventional cooking with wood and charcoal produces significant smoke and harmful pollutants, contributing to respiratory diseases and other health issues. Clean cook stoves and eco briquettes produce little or no smoke and pollutants, therefore it improves indoor air quality and health outcomes.

Moreover, clean cook stoves are designed to be more efficient, requiring less fuel and producing less waste. Eco briquettes are typically made from agricultural waste and other sustainable materials like saw dust, providing an environmentally friendly fuel alternative.

Last but not the least, our project creates and will create local jobs in the production, sourcing of raw materials and distribution of cook stoves and briquettes. It will also empower communities by providing access to affordable, sustainable cooking solutions.

Finally, part of my project involves educating communities about the benefits of clean cooking solutions and how to use them effectively.
