Build the right team for a startup

Section 2 : Strong, decisive leadership maintain harmony

50%

Your staff will look to you for guidance, training, and direction. It’s important to consult with team members, but final decisions must be unilateral. A workplace that’s overly participatory can be perceived as rudderless and unfocused.

It’s also critical that you define individual worker responsibilities precisely. When job roles are ambiguous, or when they overlap too much, you run the risk of critical tasks sitting undone.

Instead, consider every job function that needs to be completed and make certain that someone has been assigned to it. When more than one staff member has the same job, be clear in how they’re to share the load.
