Power dynamics at networking events

Section 2 : You don’t have to sound impressive

50%

A lot of the pressure at networking events comes from trying to sound important. You try to say your title or your pitch in a way that sounds like you have it all figured out. But that’s not what people remember. They remember clarity, curiosity and confidence.

Instead of trying to cram your whole resume into a sentence, try being honest and present. Ask better questions and offer thoughtful observations. If you’re early in your journey, say so and speak from where you actually are. The right people will respect it. And the ones who don’t? They were never going to give you a real opportunity anyway.
