The unfortunate truth is that many of us only look into trademarks or patents once we’ve seen a copycat, or after we’ve missed out on a big opportunity because we didn’t register something properly. When this happens to you, you will have to work really hard to protect your work and fight even harder to prove it was yours in the first place. This can be time consuming and can get very costly. You are also not assured at this point that you will get it back.
Don’t wait until your business is big. In fact, smaller businesses have more to lose when their work gets copied because they don’t always have the money to fight it. Doing a simple check now, or getting basic paperwork in place, saves you from much bigger problems later.
