As a leader, your job is to inspire and motivate your team to push single mindedly toward a common goal. To do this, you first need to fully commit yourself to the vision you’re attempting to inspire. Because excitement is contagious. If every day you demonstrate your devotion to your staff and the finish line you’re all chasing, they’ll naturally fall in behind you.
Be confident with your decisions. Your employees are looking to you for direction. If they sense you’re hedging, they’ll be less likely to trust your leadership. This means you can’t make decisions without doing your legwork first. Talk to your people. They’ll all have a valuable perspective, and they’ll respect you for consulting with them. Then, when you have all the information you need to make an informed decision, commit to it, and bring your team along.
Great leaders don’t operate in a vacuum. They involve their staff at every point along the path. If you leverage your employee’s strengths, congratulate them on their victories, help them learn from their mistakes, and cheer the team on as they move in lockstep toward their goals, you’ll gain critical buy-in and will be able to proudly bear the mantle of leadership.
