Why people hate change

Section 1 : The comfort of familiarity

25%

Familiarity provides a sense of security and stability. People become accustomed to routines, processes, and environments, finding comfort in their predictability. When change threatens this familiarity, it can evoke feelings of anxiety and resistance as individuals grapple with the uncertainty of what lies ahead.

Imagine a company where employees have been using the same software for years. They've mastered its functions and developed workflows around it. Suddenly, the company announces a switch to a new software platform. Despite promises of improved efficiency, employees resist the change because they're comfortable with the old system and fear the learning curve of the new one.

To address resistance stemming from familiarity, you should provide ample training and support to help employees adapt to the new system. You can also highlight the benefits of the change, emphasising how it will improve processes and ultimately benefit employees in the long run.
