Why people hate change

Section 3 : Fear of the unknown

75%

The unknown can be intimidating. When faced with change, people may envision worst-case scenarios, focusing on potential pitfalls rather than opportunities. Fear of failure or incompetence can paralyse individuals, preventing them from accepting change and exploring new possibilities.

Consider a team tasked with implementing a new project management methodology. Despite the potential benefits of increased efficiency and collaboration, team members hesitate to adopt the new approach because they're unfamiliar with it. They fear making mistakes or falling behind, so they cling to familiar methods, even if they're less effective.

To address fear of the unknown, you need to provide education and resources to help employees understand the changes and feel confident in their ability to adapt. Offering training sessions, workshops, and mentorship programs can demystify new processes and build employees' skills and confidence.
