Primary Educare Initiative (PEI)

In rural part of South Sudan, access to quality learning materials is a major problem for those who have the opportunity to be in school for primary and secondary education. The textbooks to pupil ratio is very low with some students having one textbook to 15 learners. The main cause of this includes limited supply of textbooks, high costs of books, and poverty from their individual family background. The overall effect of this leads to low literacy rates, poor performance and even dropout altogether. The few students that persevere to finish have limited opportunities to access further education due to poor performance and economic disadvantages.

Our company is proposing a two-prongs approach; mobile access to learning materials to learners within a close range on a rotational basis and low-cost printing of revised learning materials recommended by teachers so that students from low-income background may benefit from this program. Students in a particular school may have access to the learning materials for a specified number of days before they are taken to the next school. We will also launch a book donation campaign to support students of this caliber in their journey to academic success.

Our goals are to increase access to learning materials, promote quality learning among learners of upper primary education, campaign for quality education and improve community commitment to education, and support learners and teachers with quality affordable learning materials.

Our initiative is unique because it is a mobile library model unlike traditional fixed libraries. It will also be adaptable to the community and learners and will be ran by the schools and the community. The project will combine increased access to quality educational content and maximized reach at a minimal cost to enhance access to quality education in rural part of South Sudan.

Some students will pay small membership fee to be reinvested into the operations. We solicit for volunteers to support the cause. The company will lobby for partnerships from the community and publishing companies and promote a book donation drive to support the program. A physical library may also be established in the community for students to further access learning materials for their learning and this will require subscription and borrowing fees. Copies for selling shall also be made available for those who can afford.

The project will target pupils of primary 4 to 8 in rural settings, the parents of pupils in those classes and teachers in rural setting. In the future, the program may reach lower primary and secondary school students as well.
