When building a network, you can’t approach it as a resource to be exploited. Remember that you are a connection in someone else’s network, and they may call on you for a favor. Be ready to give when you can, and help whenever possible. This creates a reciprocal network that you’ll contribute to just a much as you’ll benefit from.
Without this mentality of sharing, your contacts will eventually tire of giving without getting anything in return. So give first and give often, and only request help when you really need it. And keep adding connections. There’s no such thing as a network that’s too big. In no time you’ll find you have a large network of quality connections that you can leverage to drive rapid expansion.
