Your first slide is doing more work than you think. That’s where you either catch interest or lose it completely. If your opener doesn’t make it immediately obvious what the business is and why it matters, you’ll be fighting for attention the rest of the way. Don’t waste that space trying to sound smart or innovative. Just say what the business does in plain language. One line. No fluff.
Don’t assume people will keep reading and eventually figure it out. The truth is, most investors only spend a few seconds per slide on the first read. If they still don’t get what you do by slide three, they’ll move on. So use that first slide to anchor them. If they understand the basics up front, they’re more likely to stay with you all the way through.
